Phil Brown will be hoping his side can kick on from this victory

It finally happened. Preston North End have ended their 10 league game losing streak by winning 1 – 0 against Hartlepool.

Preston striker Neil Mellor scored the only goal of the match from 22 yards out and has said he hopes this will restore the faith back into the team.

"I've only ever looked at the top half of the table because that's where we want to finish this season."

Again Stuckmann stood strong in goal and kept out two shots from James Poole who also made a plea for a penalty which was waved on by the referee.

Hartlepool were in a similar position to Preston North End in regards to losing games as this was their seventh home defeat at Victoria Park.

Although the Pool’s continued to push themselves forward PNE managed to hold on throughout the second half clinching the 1 – 0 victory.

Off the pitch, however there seemed to be some dispute as to the penalty decision. Mick Wadsworth, Hartlepool’s head coach said; ‘I couldn't see the incident from my side of the pitch, but the reaction of my players and the crowd was overwhelmingly pointing to the opinion it was a penalty.’

All in all I think I speak on behalf of all North End fans when I say thank goodness we have finally won a match. I don’t think anybody expected it, even the most diehard fans of PNE were shocked to see the Lily Whites were in the lead.

Let’s just hope this can continue and they don’t fall back into disaster again.
