Young Preston North End star Danny Mayor has expressed how he’s looking forward to the Carlisle game on Boxing Day.

The Leyland born winger came up through North End’s youth ranks and on the 15 December 2008 was given his first professional two and a half year contract with fellow player Adam Barton.

Looking ahead to the Carlisle game on Sunday, Mayor along with his team mates have been focussed on training and doing it for the fans;

‘Trainings been absolutely brilliant, I think we’re more relaxed now’ Expressed Mayor.

‘We don’t want to show them (the fans) that we can just win at MK Dons and then we go down and get beat to Carlisle. We want to show them that we can kick on and that it wasn’t a fluke with David Unsworth and Graham Alexander.'

Known for his lightening pace, Danny scored his first goal for Preston against his old club Tranmere Rovers in September where the whites won 3-2.

Since then he’s continued to show his loyalty to the club, more recently to caretaker manager David Unsworth and fellow team mate Graham Alexander after the MK Dons match.

‘These two have come in and tried to make it enjoyable and I think all the players showed they were enjoying it on Saturday.’

‘They told us the next day that we come in, we’re good players, we can get up out of this division and I think we went out Saturday wanting to play for them.’

With just three points behind the play off’s now, things could be looking up for the team in 2012, Preston have two home games left this season against Carlisle and then Sheffield Wednesday, who could prove to be tough opponents.

But the optimistic midfielder has hopes that there will be a better outlook at the beginning of 2012.

‘It’s Christmas, everyone enjoys Christmas no matter what age you get. I just think we want to show fans that we’ve turned a corner and we’re going to start winning games again.’

‘We don’t really want to go into Christmas looking down the table we want to look up, always, and I think we can do that now.’

After the success of MK Dons Mayor and his team mates are hoping they can make the fans proud again.

‘The fans were brilliant at MK Dons, the ones that travelled, and hopefully we can do it for the ones in Deepdale on Monday.’
