The versatile player has played in both defence and midfield for the whites and is continuing to show us his skills on the pitch since turning professional with the club in January 2010.
His official debut for Preston was in November last year against Hull City signing an extended contract in December to keep him on until 2013.
McLaughlin has made 12 appearances this season and in the final half of the game last Saturday was closer to scoring his first goal, instead hitting the post;
‘I heard Grezza (Graham Alexander) shout take it to the corner, it was just unlucky it didn’t go in.’
At the age of 20, McLaughlin has represented Northern Ireland at youth International level and was called up for the senior team in October of this year, making his debut in September against Italy in an unfortunate 3-0 defeat.
Along with his team mates he is looking forward to the next challenge against Carlisle on Boxing Day;
‘We’re all focussed on the Carlisle game at the minute, so even though it was a brilliant result the other day against MK Dons we just have to move on and get the three points up for grabs, we’re close to the play offs now so its important.’
With the concerns over the losing streak Preston have endured over their last few games the win against MK Dons gave the players that hope again to continue with a more successful run this season.
McLaughlin believes there has been a growing faith in the team since the win and is hoping they can all move forward;
‘It’s a huge confidence boost for everyone, it gives everyone belief again and hopefully we can go on another run like we did at the start of the season. The run that we went on for losing games, is behind us now.’
